Personal approach
Not everyone is an actor. Many of the people I record are seeing a microphone, lavalier or wireless headset for the first time. Children, speakers at a conference, people suddenly in front of the camera. That takes care: care for the sound, but also for the person. Calmly explaining what's happening, asking whether something feels comfortable, a joke at the right moment. People only sound natural once they're at ease.
At the same time, I work precisely and critically. No hiss, no clothing rustle, no channel opened a beat too late. It has to be right. Otherwise production might as well have grabbed their own recording.
Equipment
A Sound Devices 833 recorder with Axient Digital receivers, Panamic boompoles, Sennheiser MKH8000-series microphones in Cinela windscreens. Industry-standard pro equipment, for reliable recording in any conditions.
